I’m the second oldest of four and we’re all pretty spread apart in age. Six years separate me from both my older sister and my younger sister, and let me tell you, that gap is wide enough to ensure that your children will not get along until everyone has passed the age minimum for renting a car. But now, that we’re older, we’re all very close, considering that we’re spread out over Oahu and the Big Island. Another side effect of the age difference is that we all hit life stages in such different ways. My older niece, Ashley, was born just two years after my brother and my second niece, Darilyn, was another two years after that. Ashley and Jordan were best buds and it was adorable when my mom brought Ashley to pick up Jordan from kindergarten. Heads turned as a three year-old toddler streaked across the playground yelling “Uncle Jordan” at the cluster of kindergarteners.
Now that I’ve finally started a family of my own, my second oldest niece, Darilyn, isn’t too far behind me. She and her boyfriend, Derrick, are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their baby boy. It’s been incredible to watch Darilyn this year, she and Derrick are going to be wonderful parents. I am so proud of you both! And this little boy is going to be loved to the moon and back!
